What Hacker News says?
He does have a popular blog, but take a look - https://chriskresser.com/about/ Chris Kresser, M.S., L.Ac. - "M.S. L.Ac." means Master of Science, Licensed Acupuncturist. This is his formal training, all I'm saying is that he shouldn't be presented as an expert to Joe Rogan's audience in the topic he was interviewed on.

HN discussionI wouldn't bring up chemicals in the brain, because that is a nonsense marketing term. https://chriskresser.com/the-chemical-imbalance-myth/ http://www.brown.uk.com/diagnosis/france.pdf You can't claim that sleeping, eating, and exercising are "fixing" chemicals in the bain any more than people can claim chemical imbalance causes mental illness. There is no baseline for what normal chemical levels are.

HN discussionIt's worth noting, that despite being blocked out in the diet list in the research, the state of red meat is still not firm [0]. There seems to be a body of evidence that naturally fed ruminants are very good sources of nutrition for people. It's worth noting said nutrition profile does change DRAMATICALLY when they're fed unnatural sources (grain/feed) over natural sources. If you don't eat meat because you don't w…

HN discussion> Margarine without trans fats is readily available and can be a healthier fat than butter though No. > high trans-fat margarines were bad There's no such thing as "high trans-fats". Industrial trans fats, like from margarine or other ultra-processed products, is unsafe in any quantity, low or high. There is indeed a principle of toxicology that " the dose makes the poison ", however in case of trans fats that dose…

HN discussionThere is a good overview of evidence on salt in this series of articles: http://chriskresser.com/shaking-up-the-salt-myth-the-dangers... Gary Taubes (author of this article) goes over the evidence on salt restriction in more detail in Good Calorires, Bad Calories, but it is missing some recent studies indicating negative outcomes for salt restriction. I believe Taubes is often wrong (as most people are) when proposi…

HN discussionI think it's safe to say that there's some sort of correlation, although of course obesity is a complex issue. Higher caloric intake is just part of equation. Sedentary life style, increased stress, reduced sleep, "western" diet (highly inflammatory, with poor nutrient density), craving-inducing food, and messed up intestinal flora are just some of the things that likely contribute to obesity. As someone who travels…

HN discussion> A commonly cited statistic is that cows produce more greenhouse gases than all the world’s transportation combined, or 18% of all greenhouse gases. ... [snip] ... A more accurate analysis of the data resulted in a much more respectable estimate: that cattle contribute less than 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. http://chriskresser.com/the-real-environmental-impact-of-red...

on “Humans have salamander-like ability to regrow cartilage in joints”The reason that health care costs rise in almost all countries is that we are doing something wrong. The question is what? Can it be that doctors who do not try to find the root causes of diseases have no solutions ? Can it be that doctors who prescribe drugs to suppress symtoms cause problems in the long run ? Cancer is a disease with high costs where a lot can be gained. Watch a documentary about Dr Burzynski who…

on “Calorie per Dollar List – Eat for 21 Dollars a Week”"Plant foods are vastly more nutritious than animal sources." Well, the question I responded to was about inexpensive nutrient-dense foods. Based on this organ meats, eggs and fish/shellfish beats plant foods all to hell. "Where is the fiber..." Fiber is nutrient-dense? Nope, it's not. It's not even digestible by the body.
