  5. Changing SSH port is far more efficacious at reducing nonsense than the Twitter poll in the article suggests: > "I ran an experiment with a virtual machine exposed to the internet which had sshd listening on port 22. The server stayed online for one week and then I changed the ssh port to 222. The number of attacks dropped by 98%. Even though this is solely empirical evidence, it’s clear that moving off the standard…

At least according to this and a few other pages I've found https://danielmiessler.com/blog/rss-feed-youtube-channel/ Also, I can see that for other services like Twitter, there are indeed third party providers that can create feeds https://rss.app/blog/how-to-create-twitter-rss-feeds Also Reddit subreddits and users: https:…

  11. It doesn't matter how much other people care. It is that you want to have an informed opinion - for yourself. If I make an opinion prematurely I see myself defend it while familiarizing myself with the topic. I go blind to what contradicts it and remember only what fits my preconceived ideas. This is why I try to avoid it. Perhaps other people (you) are able to suspend their uninformed opinion but I highly doubt it.…

Also, d: delete c: change y: yank (copy) v: visually select (V for line vs. character) It's also why I added the -ish to my comment (editors can be very polarising), but I feel many of vim's basic editing features are very intuitive Edit: https://danielmiessler.com/study/vim/ It's where I learned the command meanings and started to understand vim in a more intuitive manner

  23. L is locator, I is identifier. URLs are a subset of URIs. Both start with a schema (something:...), but URIs lack the information about the location and way to get at a resource. The canonical example for identifier-but-not-location is an ISBN or DOI. That interpretation however requires a very peculiar interpretation of "location", because imho "where can I read about that" can precisely be answered by "ISBN ...".…
