What Hacker News says?

  1. That's awesome. Every section on the command is simple, but taken as a whole, it is pretty thorny. I find that MoviePy ( https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/ ) is a great tool for more complex operations like the aboce. A lot of MoviePy's functionality is derived from an FFMPEG wrapper, but it is just easier to split things up into a small script.

  3. This looks great! Two alternatives if you are interested in doing similar things in python are moviepy ( https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/ ) and vidpy (which I am working on, and still has many issues: https://antiboredom.github.io/vidpy/ )

  5. Have you tried moviepy? It works by converting matplotlib figures into numpy arrays (you can even pre-build a list of arrays and then just iterate over the list). http://zulko.github.io/blog/2014/11/29/data-animations-with-...

  7. I'm talking about the animation module: https://matplotlib.org/2.0.0/api/animation_api.html There's also moviepy, which integrates well with matplotlib (they take RGB arrays as inputs to build the video file, but it has an helper function that converts matplotlib figures into numpy RGB arrays - that should be easy to parallelize). 11. Nice, how does your timeline work under the hood? Does it read from wikipedia? What could be interesting in your project is to be able to compare timelines. See for instance this website specifically for comparing composer works (with timelines pre-extracted from wikipedia): https://zulko.github.io/composer-timelines/?selectedComposer...

  17. You can include Javascript in the pages, but it won't be animated in the end. Maybe you would be interested by this project to make slideshows with Pug/SCSS/Vue.JS. There you can make plenty of animations: https://zulko.github.io/eaglejs-demo/#/

  19. I believe MoviePy uses ffmpeg underneath. Have not used ffmpeg-python, but MoviePy has nice higher-level abstractions like clips (both audio and video), time functions, transitions etc that you can then compose pretty elegantly. See some of the examples on their site: https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/gallery.html

  21. The documentation shows ffmpeg is used only for encoding/decoding, composition/animation/effects are driven by openCV/numpy/scipy/PIL See: https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/getting_started/quick_presen... 25. Indeed. I use libraries such as MoviePy* that wrap ffmpeg and allow you to implement effects on each frame. * https://zulko.github.io/moviepy/index.html

  29. This used to be one of my main hobbies, I listened to thousands of these and I am super grateful to the people scanning and hosting these collections. Some software I wrote for piano roll analysis and transcription: - Unroll: https://zulko.github.io/unroll-online/ - upload a piano roll midi file and have it quantized and converted to lilypond sheet music. More about the process in this blog: https://zulko.github.io/…
