What Hacker News says?
Security through obscurity. I thought we all have learned that it doesn't work. Well, good riddance, KasperskyOS! "And then there are some details that will remain for certain customers’ eyes only forever, to ward off cyber-terrorist abuses." https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2012/10/16/kl-developing-its-ow...

HN discussionNice of you to say but what about this: https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2016/11/10/thats-it-ive-had-eno... Obviously Kaspersky isn't open source, but the tiger's stripes certainly haven't changed. Also, Microsoft bundling Windows 10 upgrade malware into its security update channel has turned me off Microsoft, probably forever. Still don't understand why installing 10 after being told not to isn't a CFAA violation.

HN discussionHighly skeptical that this isn't new red scare BS. Eugene gets to be the subject of so many dumb conspiracy theories. HN discussionRather than having a daily list, I use Feeder (Chrome extension: http://feeder.co/ ) to read my RSS feeds, I had always preferred it to Google Reader, I never did get myself into the mantra of checking Reader often (it ended up being once every few months, when I randomly remembered) ; however Feeder is nice in its minimalistic approach, just showing me how many items for each feed, which encourages me to zero it ou…

HN discussionNothing in your post is in line with reality. You've cherry picked statements out of context to imply that they are not exclusive to the NSA, ignoring the smoking guns that were presented and failing to link them. There is simply no question that this is USG malware, and you'll notice that Kaspersky, who, no, does not have extensive ties to the FSB and Russian government, actually stops short of attribution, unlike…

HN discussionIts stuff like this. Phone recieves message, runs code embedded in msg for nfi reason why literally starting off the chain of events/exploits to hack yo device. https://eugene.kaspersky.com/2023/06/01/a-matter-of-triangul... We've had a few of these types of entry points in phones now over the years. Enough that if its still happening its probably by design as a favor to a 3 letter agency.

HN discussionStuxnet was discovered by Belarusian antivirus expert Sergey Ulasen, who was working for Belarusian antivirus company VirusBlokAda. Later, he moved to Kaspersky. This is how it was discovered: "It all started when the technical support guys informed me about a rather unusual case: a customer in Iran reported arbitrary BSODs and computer reboots. HN discussion> Despite many ups and downs, we eventually managed to obtain all the stages used in this attack, including four zero-day exploits reported to Apple, two validators, an implant and its modules. Looks like NSA still hasn't forgiven Kaspersky for exposing STUXNET [1]. It seems that this latest attack on Kaspersky was expensive. Losing 4 zerodays must have been painful. It's also possible that Israel and Unit 8200 [2]…
