  7. As the article shows, the close button on MacOS classic was basically an empty box, but on mousing down on that box, it transformed into something that looks a bit like an x. I'm basing this on what I can see from using [1], but from my possibly inaccurate recollection of using the real thing in the 80s and 90s, some versions of MacOS had an even more "x like" mouse down image on the close button. 13. if electron is not to your taste, you can run the emulator in your browser here: https://jamesfriend.com.au/projects/basiliskii/ coincidently today firefox 79 was released, which brings back support for SharedArrayBuffer, which is a key part of the browser port of this emulator

  19. Hi, I hacked this together, though most of the credit should go to Hampa Hug's very nice emulator[0]. I'm posting this now as I saw the neat Windows emulator project and figured today was a good day to talk about emulation :) My reasoning for putting this together is that I think it's really important for people to learn from what's come before, and the web is the most accessible place to do that. I've written a pos…

  21. It's already built from two open source projects: PCE[0] and Emscripten[1]. It patches Emscripten a little, and PCE a lot, so I'll need to separate those patches out and add them into the build process. Basically the code is not really in much of a state for other people to hack on just yet. However, for GPL compliance with PCE, a dump of the source is available[2]. 23. Yeah, I'll put it up on GitHub once I've had time to clean up the build process to separate the new code from the dependencies (which I've had to hack extensively). In the meantime here's a dump of the source: http://jamesfriend.com.au/pce-js/pcejs20131028.zip

  25. As there seems to be a lot of interest in emulators in the browser, here's my effort: I ported an emulator for classic Mac and IBM PC to the browser. Mac System 7 Demo: http://jamesfriend.com.au/pce-js/ Windows 3.0 Demo: http://jamesfriend.com.au/pce-js/ibmpc-win/ IBM PC doesn't have mouse support... Yet. For Mac OS it's writing the mouse position directly into memory, but I've yet to add that hack for Windows.

  27. I did the initial work of porting this emulator to the browser (most credit should go to the original emulator author however: http://hampa.ch/pce ). I wrote up the process and hacks that went in to making this possible here: https://jamesfriend.com.au/porting-pce-emulator-browser The most gross/fun part was how I made the Mac OS mouse position align with your real mouse cursor: by writing its position directly to t…
