Mine a lot of bitcoins back when it was just starting out. 2. Asked Jeff Atwood author of codinghorror.com if he had an extra spot on the team for this new venture called StackOverflow. I recommend you read time keeping on the computer systems. Without NTP and some atomic clocks on the network, computers can't keep accurate time themselves. And using a moving window / sun synchronization like that is just brave to put it mildly. [0] https://blog.codinghorror.com/keeping-time-on-the-pc/ Also, there was an excellent article about clock drift, but I failed to find it.

  13. Fine-grained permissions aren’t useful if an application is going to request access to everything anyway - and non-technical or non-privacy-conscious users will click-through any and all permission prompts so [they can see the dancing bunnies]( https://blog.codinghorror.com/the-dancing-bunnies-problem/ ). In the case of very popular, aggressively-marketed, apps like TikTok and Facebook’s: the lack of easy side-loadi…

  17. This should rightfully be on the front-page of HN. I've gone through something almost the same as Dan Abramov here, and I feel it's difficult to impossible to explain this and you have to experience it yourself. The tricky bit is where to draw the line, which I've learned only after pouring thousands of lines of code and I understand is a bit different for everybody. The rule of three[1] was a very useful rule of th…

  29. Last month I ran into The Principle of Least Power, and it's grabbed me and the more I think about it, the more it expands. I think all of your statements lines up with this principle, except one. Containers are a simpler solution than Operating Systems. Operating Systems is a tightly bound non-simplistic system that breeds complexity, just as you state npm does. Because those interfaces are tightly bound, we were n…
