  3. > Does anyone remember when you they stumbled on a new website written by some guy and read his first article, then clicked back to his homepage and saw he had a list of similar articles that looked like they'd be just as interesting. Or, more likely, you clicked "back" on the "navigation bar" and it would 404 because the author messed up the links, since it was all hand crafted HTML. Funny stuff aside, there are st…

  5. Again, no. You completely somehow forgot tech in late 2000s lol. The internet on anything mobile was pretty painful when it launched in general. Websites weren't optimized for mobile, mobile data was unusably slow. Most people who wanted portability were using things like netbooks, which you could actually multitask on. Blackberry was the goto for actual phone because it was much easier to type on due to the best ke…

  9. Not sure what this does on HN. Perhaps people don't know Maddox? Here's an old classic where he's judge art work done by other kids on the internet; http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=irule Random hate mail; http://maddox.xmission.com/hatemail.cgi?p=1

  15. That's because the infographic is highlighting the fact that 25% of the much-touted jobs created by the movie industry are menial positions primarily staffed by high schoolers that would probably not flat-out disappear even if the movie industry did. The actual BLS report[1] he's citing does indeed include all those categories you're talking about, and that's where the 361,900 number comes from. I agree, though — th…

  16. I don't mean to be crabby, but the infographic explicitly mentions that some of the jobs are from the service industry. If you look at the infographic in context[1], it lists the source[2]. Also, while I generally agree with your point about this meriting a very detailed and thorough analysis, I do not believe that it was "intentionally" misleading any more than my disagreement with you indicates that you are also b…

  17. > In other words, I can tell that there's a potentially poignant idea about web design in this post, but it was a little drowned out because of the way it was presented. I think it would be difficult to find an idea in this post that hasn't already been more poignantly formulated on [0] or more funny and even less respectfully on [1]. I really don't see the point. 18. The AirPods are the best recent example of people who haven’t tried the new thing crapping on it saying the old ways work fine. Multiple times people have crapped on the AirPods and I gift them one and they realize how amazing it is to not have wires at all. Last time this happened was with the OG iPhone of course. Still remember Maddox’s tear down of the iPhone lol. https://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=iphone/

  22. This form of banter reminds me of Maddox from the early 2000s, which funnily enough is still active at https://maddox.xmission.com/ I agree its relatively played out at this point. Really this page is just a showcase of HTML features for web developers who don't have much experience with HTML, and I think the insulting attitude and comedic approach may hold reader's interest than a more dry technical presentation of…

  28. Reid's official statement on his .gov website ( http://democrats.senate.gov/2012/01/20/reid-statement-on-int... ) said the movie industry alone 'supports' 2.2 million Americans. 30. According to the article, they want to do it "the lean startup way". So... why does it have to be self-balancing? Just add a third wheel and it's always stable - no need for gyros and complicated electronics. And as a by-product, you have immediately lowered the price massively: it's just a few motors then instead of that balancing magic. My price lowering guess would be between 50% and 80% lower. That would be real…
