What Hacker News says?
Sure, on linux all you really have is xorg, what used to be xfree86, but I have used xsgi, and there are X servers for windows, heck, I have even seen this amazing demo Xserver that ran on the web. footnote: there is something wrong with the commonly used web search engines and I am unable to find that X11 web demo, I think they are prioritizing recent content over good content. you would think with how interesting…

HN discussionI don't think that's necessary. here's a VNC server in your browser: https://github.com/novnc/noVNC or an x window system tutorial, with an in-browser x server https://magcius.github.io/xplain/article/index.html personally I think this will lead to more hiding of what internet sites are doing, and prevent blocking of undesirable behavior.

HN discussionAn interactive introduction (now unmaintained as author wrote to an HN submission) to X windowing system: https://magcius.github.io/xplain/article/index.html That covers the graphics part which is the same for the two windowing systems. See Wayland's FAQ[1] and architecture[2] page for why it was made and how they differ. https://wayland.freedesktop.org/faq.html https://wayland.freedesktop.org/architecture.html Thou…

HN discussionI'm aware of TEVs -- I did write http://magcius.github.io/bmdview.js/bmdview.html after all, which compiles TEV back into GL shaders :) My point was more that TEVs can't modify texture coordinates, since texcoordgen happens before the TEV stage. TEVs only specify how to blend vertex colors, texture samples, game-set registers and lighting results together using configurable formulas.

HN discussionIt's a simple software rasterizer. If you're interested in writing your own, I've written a tutorial explaining the basics. https://magcius.github.io/xplain/article/rast1.html

HN discussionAuthor here. I stopped working on this a few years ago, so now's as good a time as any for an overly-long, rambly, unedited retrospective. When I started this, I was working on GNOME's window manager full-time, and wanted to learn intricately how X11's drawing model worked, so over the course of a few weeks in a hotel room, I recreated large parts of X11's drawing model in a web browser, fixing artifacts as I went a…

HN discussion> Js isn't deterministic to that level of granularity Why not? I linked a test app [0] in my post that generates generate PCM data on demand, and fast. It works deterministically on all the browsers. Mozilla certainly implemented AudioData back in 2011 and it was fast enough for them. > He'll I wrote a tron game and did the audio using audio node chains and managed to get something really close to the real tron cycl…

HN discussion(Author of that article here) It's a bit outdated and honestly needs replacing at this point. Xplain[0] replaces parts of it, and some of my newer blog posts[1][2] replace other parts. I can also answer any questions people have about the stack. [0] http://magcius.github.io/xplain/article/ [1] http://blog.mecheye.net/2014/06/xdg-shell/ [2] http://blog.mecheye.net/2016/01/dri/

HN discussionThe author references this in his post, but I think it's worth calling out: https://magcius.github.io/model-viewer/ has models from various scenes in various games, and lets you travel through them. I think it's pretty cool, as it reminds me how much work goes into making a scene in a video game. Oh, and if you want to give your browser a real workout, load up Splatoon's Inkopolis Plaza!
