HN discussionI don't always agree with Mark Cuban, but I think he makes a good point on this when he talks about the folly in the adage, "follow your passions." His point is that you should follow your efforts as that leads you to be better at something, which in turn grows your passions in it. You can read his words for yourself: http://blogmaverick.com/2012/03/18/dont-follow-your-passion-... .

HN discussionfwiw, Mark Cuban seemingly forgot about the judicial branch also when examining problem recently ( http://blogmaverick.com/2012/03/13/i-hope-yahoo-crushes-face... ) - "Rather than originating in Congress, its going to take a consumer uprising to cause change".

HN discussion> In addition, I wonder by what criteria one would evaluate how "properly" the markets are functioning. Who decides what is proper? For example, based on the business fundamentals it seems ludicrous to me that Apple would have a lower P/E ratio than GM--but it currently does. Couple of things: 1. Reference to Apple PE ratio is likely a market driven phenomenon that has occurred before to the other technology company…

HN discussionNot true. Marc Cuban has written an excellent blog post on this: http://blogmaverick.com/2004/07/20/microsoft-dividends-and-s... Dividends reward you for holding a stock. Buybacks you when you sell the stock. I'd much prefer dividends, and if we had a better tax policy on them, I think you'd see companies do a lot less crazy #&*$ to expand into markets that they have no business in.

HN discussionHistory doesn't necessarily repeat nor rhyme. For 15 years now there have been people wrongly calling a bubble. The justifications change but looking back we can say they were wrong - or at least, a "bubble" that never pops and people get bored of talking about might have just been actual, real economic growth. HN discussionHe also talks about it in the Netflix documentary Inside Bill's Brain. Warren Buffett famously said to some students, "Read 500 pages like this every day. That's how knowledge works. It builds up, like compound interest. All of you can do it, but I guarantee not many of you will do it." Charlie Munger is as much of a reader as Buffett. He's especially fond of biographies, according to the book The Joy of Compounding…
